As a native of Utrecht, you must have walked past the works of Gerrit Rietveld. As a true lover of Dutch design you will of course know that this is one of the most famous Dutch designers of his time. He still inspires young designers with his work. The Rietveld walking route takes you to all the places that have meant something in Gerrit’s life. An inspirational tour of 5 km through Utrecht and also a way to burn some calories.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rietveld walking route<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Architecture, furniture and Dutch design is the only thing you will encounter during the Rietveld walking Route. The only thing you will encounter? What am I saying? It is not without reason that the Rietveld Schr\u00f6derhuis is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. His works make him a legend among the designers in the year 2020. You will start the route at the Centraal Museum and will continue with eight other works by Gerrit. Visit the website<\/a> of the Rietveld walking route in advance, because for some locations you need a reservation. Do you want to go shopping or you\u2019re in the mood for some extra kilometers? The route also has extensions and it is possible to walk through the shopping streets of Utrecht.<\/p>\n

De Stijl<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Were Piet Mondriaan and Gerrit Rietveld good friends in the past? The answer is no, but they were both involved in setting up the monthly magazine “De Stijl”. They have not even met, but they have many similarities in their work. The art movement ‘de Stijl’ was also created by the monthly magazine ‘De Stijl’. This art movement is seen as one of the most important contributions to Dutch art. Gerrit and Piet both used the primary colors (red, yellow, blue) with (black, white and gray). The funny thing is that the favorite color Gerrit worked with was gray and one of his best known architecture is the red-blue armchair.
